The Feminist Belgian-style tripel ale which was yummy! Made by Monkish Brewing Company in Torrance, California
On day 5 of American Craft Beer Week we stopped by three different local brewing companies. We started off at Monkish Brewing Company located at 20311 South Western Avenue Torrance, California. Lloyd enjoyed a sampler and I went for a glass of their Feminist beer. The Feminist is Belgian-style tripel ale spiced with hibiscus, yummy. They described this beer as being heavily infused with hibiscus and it displays a pink tinge. The beer greets you with a malty sweetness that quickly dissipates into a dry and tart grapefruit, lemonade finish. I really enjoyed this beer, so much that it took out Batch 100 by the Strand Brewing Company as my favorite. I usually lean towards dark beers so this one was a surprise for me.
Next we headed over to El Segundo Brewing Company which is located at 140 Main Street El Segundo, California. Lloyd went for the flight and I went for the Hyperion’s Double Stout. They describe this beer as being for chocolate lovers. A bit on the sweet side, with a nice dark roasted coffee bitterness to balance. A huge chocolate presence throughout supported by a heady, velvety texture with creamy carbonation. Welcome to my favorites list Hyperion’s Double Stout.
Finally we ended our evening with a stop at Strand Brewing Company which is located at 23520 Telo Avenue # 2, Torrance, California. Since I already had a Batch 100 earlier this week at the Select Beer Store, I decided to try the Beach House. The Beach House is an Amber Ale that they describe as a slightly hoppier amber. Hoppy but not bitter – well within the style guidelines. Floral nose, nutty and having a full malt characteristics. I enjoyed this beer as well.
I took the first photo with my Android Motorola Xoom and I edited it with Google Picasa. The last two photos I took with my point and shoot camera which is a Sony Cyber-shot and I edited these with Adobe Photoshop. If you would like to see the high quality photos from our American Craft Beer Week tour of breweries head over to Lloyd’s website Got Baddog for his reviews.
