Yesterday we had to do some searching to find new places to try more American craft beer. Lloyd mentioned to me to try looking for “Gastropub”, so I did and found The Rockefeller was listed in Hermosa Beach. We headed to The Rockefeller Gastropub located at 422 Pier Avenue in Hermosa Beach, California for day 6 of American Craft Beer Week.
It is unusual for me to do beer flights but there was plenty of beer on tap to come up with four for me to try. This first photo is a flight that I had which Lloyd help pick them out for me, Boont Amber which is an American Aber, Mission Blonde an American Ale, Bayhawk Chocolate Porter and the Jamaican Red Ale which was another American Amber. They were all good. The Mission Blonde was very good and the Bayhawk Chocolate Porter and the Jamaican Red Ale were great. It is getting to hard to choose how I would rank them, if I could. We might have to do a follow up to the top 5 sometime. I will not complain.
We also enjoyed their house salad which had wild arugula, parmesan crips, shaved bermude onion with a shery-hazelnut vinaigrette. Then we decided to give their Burger Rockefeller which was served with garlic aioli, wild mushrooms, apricot chutney, arugula and chaumes cheese a try. It was a great burger; we both agreed on that which does not happen often with a burger. So I had to include a photo of their Gourmet Burger which is to the right.
The staff were all helpful and the atmosphere was open with a nice breeze. We even gained a lead on a place in walking distance that also made their own brews called Abigaile. They offered to let us park our car in their back parking lot if we needed. Very friendly place with many great beers on tap. I am sure we will be a repeat customer.
So next we walked down to Abigaile’s Resteraunt to give their american craft beer a try and to meet a friend, Pamela from My Man’s Belly. I mentioned to her that I looked at some recipes on her website, I remember saving a lamb chop recipe. I thought it was one with mint, but I just did a search and found an Easy Greek Lamb Chops recipe. Going to give that a try sometime.
Back to American Craft Beer Week. Abigaile’s ,with Brian the Brewmaster, has serveral types of house-brewed craft beers. Lloyd ordered a flight so he could taste them all, I gave a few of his a try and then decided to go with the Brown Sugar Porter. The Brown Sugar Porter has brown sugar and chocolate wheat malt. It was pretty good.
We shared the charcuterie and cheese board to snack on while we enjoyed the beers at Abigaile’s. The description said a selection from home and abroad. See the photo to the right, it was a nice selection of goodies to snack on with the beer.
Abigaile’s Restaurant is located at 1301 Manhattan Ave, Hermosa Beach, California. Between 14th Street and Pier Avenue. It opens daily at 5:30 P.M.
I took my Canon Rebel with me yesterday so these are all high quality photos. To see all the photos of our American Craft Beer Week tour, which ends today, check out Lloyd’s photo & review blog Got Baddog.
